One thing your GI system loves

What’s one thing your GI system loves?

I’ll give you a hint: it’s the thing everyone was most excited about with school starting back up – routine.

When you ask people this time of year if they’re excited about school starting up, at least 80% of people say something along the lines of “I’m so ready to get back into a routine.”

We crave routine, and so do our bowels.

Don’t underestimate the benefits of getting a steady amount of water intake, daily fiber, going for a morning walk, giving yourself enough TIME in the mornings to have a bowel movement if duty calls, and a regulated nervous system.

Nailing those things daily should yield better bowel health. If it doesn’t, your pelvic floor may be involved. The pelvic floor is a group of muscles that wraps around the rectum, and when relaxed, allows for bowel movements. If these muscles are hypertonic (tense), you will likely experience difficulty with bowel movements. The solution? Pelvic floor PT, FTW! Not only can pelvic PT help with constipation, it can also help with pain with bowel movements, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and much more.
